# Define the sediment layers

To define, edit the sediment layers, click in the menu _Sediment > Sediment layers_.
Firstly, you need to create a new set of sediment layers, and click on the button edit ![edit](https://gitlab.irstea.fr/theophile.terraz/pamhyr/-/raw/master/src/View/ui/ressources/edit.png){height=20px} to edit this selected set.

In the edition, you can add more layers and edit layers properties. A layer have 5 properties: a layer height, d50, sigma, a critical constraint and an optional name.

# Apply sediment layers on reaches
To apply the sediment layers to the current reach, click in the menu _Sediment > Edit reach sediment layers_.
Sediment layers set are applied at profile (or point) level. You can apply a sediment layer set at each profile of the reach or/and apply it separately to each profile.
:warning: Sediment layers set at point level is actually not fully implemented for mage solver, we recommand to apply it at profile level
:warning: If a profile have a sediment layers set, all profile of model must have a sediment layers set applied

# Sediment boundary conditions
Boundary conditions are close to hydraulics boundary condition. If you use sediment layers at solver execution, you must have a solid boundary condition at river upstream.
Open the boundary condition window ([Boundary conditions](home/en/Boundary-conditions)) and add a new solid boundary conditions at your upstream node(s).

Edit this boundary condition and set the D50 and sigma. You can add some solid input amount in function of time.
:bulb: If you keep the table empty (like in the next images), mage solver automatically take the input capacity in function of water discharge
